About Ghent
Asking citizens of Ghent what they think of their city is a pointless exercise: you’ll find only unanimous love. And with good reason. Ghent (www.visitgent.be) is one of Europe’s greatest discoveries – small enough to feel cosy but big enough to stay vibrant. It has enough medieval frivolity to create a spectacle but retains a gritty industrial edge that keeps things ‘real’. Tourists remain surprisingly thin on the ground, yet with its fabulous canalside architecture, wealth of quirky bars and some of Belgium’s most fascinating museums, this is a city you really won’t want to miss. Travel
Ghent is internationally connected with a dense motorway network, train lines and bus services and within reach of the following international airports:
Brussels International: 1h direct train, several services every hour;
Charleroi Brussels South/Eindhoven Airport: 1,5 hour bus service
For intercontinental flights please consider:
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport: 3 hours (train/bus)
Paris Charles de Gaule: 3 hours (train with change in Lille or Brussels)
The symposium venue is situated at the corner of the pedestrian zone of the Ghent city centre and parking is expensive. On-street parking around the Conservatoire is reserved to residents. We advise to those who come by car to park outside of the city centre and use public transport. Vendors coming by car will recieve specific instructions some weeks before the symposium. A meal plan for 6 lunches at our Wijnaert event cantine is sold in the registration section.
Our event bar proposes a wide selection of non-alcoholic beverages, craft beer, wine, and of course: chocolate!
All Belgian restaurants propose healthy and vegetarian options on their menus. Our lunch program includes a vegetarian option.
